Sabre Systems, Inc. Sponsors Chief Petty Officer Exhibit aboard Battleship New Jersey

August 26, 2016

Sabre Systems, Inc. was one of many who sponsored the Chief Petty Officer (CPO) History Exhibit aboard the Battleship New Jersey, our country’s largest and most decorated Battleship. The battleship is now a museum and memorial dedicated to restoring, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting the history of the USS New Jersey and her veterans. U.S. Navy Chiefs from the Tri-State Area spearheaded the effort with the Battleship to construct a Chief Petty Officer History Exhibit, highlighting the integral role played by Chiefs in our nation’s Navy. The exhibit displays over 120 years of history and contains more than 500 artifacts gathered from all over the world by past and present chiefs.  While donations of artifacts and money came from Navy chiefs from all over, about 15 chiefs put the exhibit together. Sabre was apic 4 proud contributor to the over $20,000 that was raised to help pay for the exhibit.

The chiefs designed and built the exhibit that features display cases filled with history dating back to 1893, when the memorandum declared chief petty officer a ranking in the Navy. The displays showcase uniforms from the 1800s to today, old Navy cutlasses, photos of past master chief officers, biographies on prominent officers, coins from around the world, underwater gear and more. Each case sits on wooden shelves that have markers explaining the details of the collection.

A Ribbon cutting ceremony for the CPO History Exhibit was held aboard the Battleship New Jersey on August 12, 2016. The event kicked off with guest speakers, Admiral Linnea Sommer-Weddington, Retired Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Joe Campa, and Force Master Chief Toby Ruiz.  Representing Sabre at the ceremony were Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Phil Jaurigue; Shelby Kopp who serves as the company’s security officer and is a U.S. Navy Reservist Chief Petty Officer, and member of CPO team who helped construct the exhibit; and Science and Technology Director Bob Carullo.
